HONG KONG (SE): Sister Esther Pollak, a member of the Benedictine Community at Turvey Abbey, Britain, came to Hong Kong to hold a icon painting workshop in July at Good Hope Convent, Ngau Chi Wan, which covered painting and contemplation techniques to help developing a closer relationship with God.

The workshop was organised by Bonfire Centre, Wan Chai, as well as Good Hope Convent.

Two elementary and one advanced courses were held for students of different levels, who were guided to work on the icons of St. Francis Assisi and St. Nicholas.

While painting the icon of St. Francis, students were encouraged to contemplate on his life of spiritual poverty and peace, which was especially important amid the social unrest caused by the extradition bill and the continuous protests related.

As a way to promote icon painting in Hong Kong, an exhibition of the work of Sister Pollak’s students in different courses was held in the Bonfire Centre, Wanchai, on July 27.
