To know God and discern his voice over the noise of this world, it is vital to meditate and study the Word of God continuously, which I do. Thus it becomes a part of how I think and act. As I retain God’s Word in my heart, it keeps me away from sin, guides my steps, draws me closer to him, gives me a deeper understanding of his life-transforming power, and encourages, motivates, and helps me maintain a Godly attitude amid the trying circumstances in life.

There are many ways to hear Jesus’ voice in our hearts. He is speaking to us, and he wants us to listen to him. Singing a worship song, for me, is twice a prayer. As I listen meditatively to the lyrics of the song “God Will Make a Way”, whenever I feel down and empty, I feel God’s presence near me, comforting and telling me that everything will be okay. It gives me comfort and energises my mind and soul, reminding me that in every sad circumstance, I can overcome them because he is beside me.

As I read my Bible, I was struck by God’s Word in Ephesians 4:31-32 and felt like he was talking to me personally. The verse says, “All bitterness, fury, anger, shouting and reviling must be removed from you along with all malice. (And) be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another as God has forgiven you in Christ.”
Sometimes I can feel inside me that he is admonishing me when I do wrong or being stubborn. As I listened to his voice, my life has been gradually changed, and I became a better person.

Jesus speaks to me in Jeremiah 29:13, which says, “When you look for me, you will find me. Yes, when you seek me with all your heart.” Encountering God in a personal way makes a lifelong impact. This encounter with God enriches, lifts me up and builds my faith. During times of despair and hopelessness, I humbly seek him in prayer, and as I listen to his voice, he never disappoints me. In my moments of trepidation, he restores my confidence. I give him thanks in moments of joy and glorify his holy name.

I hear the words of Jesus every time I listen to the readings during Holy Mass. He always reminds me and guides me in my close walk towards him and my relationship with other people.

In this busy world where we live, his voice may not be heard clearly and distinctively. This crowded world of noises and life’s distractions gives us a hard time focusing on hearing, listening and understanding what he says to us. Often, God speaks to us in our quiet moments. I personally experience this. This is called praying. I talk to Jesus by speaking out the things I think and want him to know. I do not need special lessons or words to be able to pray – all I need is a desire to talk with him. I can be sure he is listening. He will never ask me to do something or say something unless it is in line with what the Bible says.

When I pray and tell Jesus all my burdens and trouble and the needs of others, I trust that Jesus hears me and stays with me throughout my life.
