Bishop Stephen Chow Sau Yan, SJ, prayer for Hong Kong SAR 1 July 2022

O Lord, although the past 25 years of the Hong Kong SAR have been very challenging, with joys and pains at times, we are grateful for the goodness, generosity, and resilience we have witnessed among the people of Hong Kong.

For the new administration, we pray that they will put the best interests of the people first, including far-reaching and empowering visions, an empathic and positive communal culture, a more profound healing in the parties and a greater sense of unity in a pluralistic Hong Kong.

For our dear young people, especially those who are struggling, we pray. Bless them with empathic understanding and meaningful support from the others; good reasons for them to trust the authority; empowering support for them to have dreams again; and the ability to avail concrete opportunities to make positive differences for their future and that of Hong Kong.

For the elderly who are sadly suffering from the pandemic and those suffering from the departure of their loved ones, we pray that they may encounter loving attention and dignified treatments from all of us, their neighbours.

We offer our earnest prayers to you, our Lord of History, with faith, hope, and love in you and for all that we proudly say our home, Hong Kong. Moreover, we sincerely pray for your abundant blessings on China and the Chinese People.

Amen.
