In our own simple ways

In our own simple ways

While there may not be a specific or unique way to serve God, we can certainly do quite a bit in our own simple way. We begin our day with a prayer. It is as simple as communicating with God, thanking him for a new day, allowing him to guide us, and entrusting our lives to him.

Next, we take care of our families. Preparing food for them, taking proper care of them, and supporting and loving them are ways of serving God. However, love and care shall not be limited to our family; we extend our kindness to others, including friends, relatives, and colleagues at work. Serving other people is serving God, as each of us is made and carved in God’s image.

Love for the self is also a service to God. Our body is God’s temple, according to St. Paul. Therefore, we love God when we can take good care of ourselves, mould our lives, keep ourselves healthy, and allow ourselves to walk in God’s path. We cannot serve others if we do not love ourselves. It is through self-love that we can love our neighbours.

We serve God through being good and kind to one another. God wants us to be compassionate, generous, and kind-hearted. Therefore, we can also express our devotion to him by doing what he wants.

Going to church and reading the Bible are ways I can think of growing in the love of God. It will be much better if our church attendance and prayers are done with our family and friends,  worshipping and praising his holy name, and living and following his words as a community. This way, we learn to value the lives of people around us.

I do my best to help and serve others, offering them what I have. I respect my parents and talk with God about everything that has happened in life. My faith helps to entrust everything into the hands of God. Reading the Bible whenever I can and regularly attending church with my family helps me discern and discover new and significant ways to serve God.
