Free anti-measles vaccine at St. Jude’s parish

About 120 parishioners of St. Jude’s Church in North Point, Hong Kong, received anti-measles vaccine on October 20. The free medical service is a project of the Hong Kong Department of Health specifically for overseas workers in the country.

Three stations were set up for the authorised medical practitioners to administer the vaccination from 2.00 to 4.30pm in the parish hall. Recipients of the vaccine were required to show a copy of their Hong Kong identity card and the visa page of their passports for registration purposes.

The medical team who administered the free vaccine for overseas workers in our parish were Yat Hung-tam, a doctor and the director of Shoebill Health Care, and his team.

The event was organised by Mildred Conise of St. Jude’s Church and Tetchie Blanco, a volunteer who coordinated with the Hong Kong Department of Health alongside with the Hong Kong Philippine Consulate General.

Blanco said she voluntarily arranges and coordinates events for overseas workers to serve the community. Mildred Conise shared she believed the service was a better alternative for overseas workers who could not go to the Philippine consulate for the vaccine, considering their busy schedules and the current social unrest.
