The diocese marked the feast of Mary, Mother of God as well as the World Day of Peace with a Mass at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, Caine Road, on January 1. The Mass was celebrated by John Cardinal Tong Hon, apostolic administrator of Hong Kong diocese and concelebrated by Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Ha Chi-shing and other priests. As Hong Kong faces social unrest, Cardinal Tong in his homily encouraged those present to believe that peace is possible if people from different sides can make an effort with more understanding and forgiveness. Several hundred people attended the Mass.
