Congratulations and prayerful wishes to Cardinal-elect Stephen Chow Sau Yan, SJ

VATICAN (SE): Following his Sunday Angelus address on July 9, Pope Francis announced a consistory for the creation of 21 new cardinals on 30 September 2023. Among those named is Bishop Stephen Chow Sau Yan, SJ, of Hong Kong, Vatican News reported.

These are the Pope Francis’ words:

”Dear brothers and sisters,

I am pleased to announce that next September 30 I will be holding a Consistory for the appointment of new cardinals. Their provenance expresses the universality of the Church, which continues to proclaim God’s merciful love to all men on earth. Furthermore, the inclusion of the new Cardinals in the diocese of Rome demonstrates the inseparable bond between the See of Peter and the particular Churches spread throughout the world.”

Here are the names of the new Cardinals:

1- His Excellency Mons. Robert Francis PREVOST, O.S.A., Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops

2- H.E. Mons. Claudio GUGEROTTI, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Oriental Churches

3- His Excellency Msgr. Víctor Manuel FERNÁNDEZ, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith

4- His Eminence Mons. Emil Paul TSCHERRIG, Apostolic Nuncio

5- His Eminence Mons. Christophe Louis Yves Georges PIERRE, Apostolic Nuncio

6- His Eminence Mons. Pierbattista PIZZABALLA, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem

7- His Excellency Msgr. Stephen BRISLIN, Archbishop of Cape Town (Kaapstad)

8- His Excellency Msgr. Ángel Sixto ROSSI, S.J., Archbishop of Córdoba

“Let us pray for the new cardinals so that, by confirming their adherence to Christ, the merciful and faithful High Priest (cf. Hebrews 2:17), they may help me in my ministry as Bishop of Rome for the good of all the faithful Holy People of God,” the pope said.
