Honestly speaking, I am not ready to go home for good because it’s so hard to find a good paying job in the Philippines and the competition is so high. My savings are not that much and high prices of commodities are alarming. Doing business is also hard because I do not know what kind of business will give good profit. Monthly bills are another aspect of concern. Doing this kind of job here in Hong Kong is tiring but there is no other choice. Going home for good is not yet an option.

Going back home for good is every overseas workers’ dream specially those working abroad for so many years. But it has to be perfectly planned and we need to set ourselves ready not only financially but also spiritually, emotionally, physically, and mentally. I will no longer think of seeking another job with high pay, and what we have saved may not be enough to sustain our needs. It is only by the grace of God that we are all secured no matter what tomorrow brings.

Many of us are thinking of going home for good to be with the family and enjoy the quality time with them. I am one of them who is thinking of going home for good in the near future to be with my family after a very long period of being away from them. I miss the opportunity to enjoy the childhood of my two daughters and I’m looking forward to being with them especially with my grandchildren. My greatest fear in going home for good is my financial capacity and I have many worries. But my faith gave me peace of mind, telling me to trust him fully because he knows what is best for me and he will be there for me all the time.

Being an overseas worker and a sole provider to the family, my biggest concern when deciding about going home for good are my finances and the adjustment to a new lifestyle that I possibly will be facing. Few of the problems encountered by the overseas workers who have returned home for good is the difficulty in seeking for employment. There may be also some issues adjusting to the family situation because after being away from home for years, the bonds between them is not as solid compare to those whohave lived with them.
Returning home is not as easy as we think and the adjustments might be difficult. But when we are mentally and emotionally ready with a proper planning of our finances, we can absolutely make a better transition and enjoy the new chapter of our life.

I am 47 years old and single and the very first thing with which I’m afraid or scared about is my future. I am worried that if I go home for good, who will stay with me, who will take care of me when I get sick or when I’m old. My siblings are already married, have their own families and their own houses in the city. I feel frustrated and desperate and have fears of what future lies ahead for me. I’ve learned to read what is in the Bible and picked some verses that uplifts my soul: like, God says, fear not, for I am with you; God will make a way where there seems to be no way; In all circumstances give thanks to the Lord; All that you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it shall be yours. All these verses gave me courage, strength, and perseverance in my life to help me focus on what is present.

I don’t focus on problems that I may encounter when I go home for good. I just focus on only one thing — God’s goodness. I strongly believe that if we know how to share our blessings while we are still heathy and earning good salary, for instance, like sharing our time, talent and treasure to others for God’s glory, when we go back home for good, our good Lord will take good care of us. I’m sure he will guide and bless us with wisdom so that we would not run empty in our old age and while we are still living. If we make our loving Lord on top of our priorities while we are still healthy and wealthy, then we don’t need to worry about our future because he promised in Philippians 4:19, “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus”.
