“Jesus Christ, you are my life”.

HONG KONG (SE): On the Vocation Sunday, May 3, the Diocesan Vocation Commission has released a music video to promote vocations to consecrated life with the theme song: “Jesus Christ, you are my life”.

The video also carries a message from Bishop Joseph Ha chi-shing for the youth. In his message, he prays that “may each one of our youngsters be able to listen to the inner voice of God and may God and his voice become our life. And this is the meaning of vocation.” He called on people to pray for one’s own vocation, vocation of the diocese and vocation of the universal Church.

The video presents around 45 consecrated men and women which included John Cardinal Tong Hon, Bishop Joseph Ha, 14 priests, 21 Sisters, five students from the Holy Spirit Seminary, and three religious brothers. They sang in unison from their respective places, owing to the restrictions in place due to the coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic.

The Vocation Commission, with the backing of the Diocesan Audiovisual centre and the Diocesan Youth Commission approached this innovative method to promote and encourage vocation to religious or priestly life.

Father Dominique Mukonda of the Diocesan Youth Commission, told the Sunday Examiner that “This pandemic has taught us of how life can suddenly take serious turns and our plans become obsolete. It helped us to reiterate that our hope is in Jesus who is our life and our comfort, the one who will not forsake us.”

Father Mukonda said, “What do I do to stay connected to this source of true life? This Month of May, which is the vocation month in the diocese, be an opportunity for the young people to meditate and discern the Lord’s call.”

He throws a punch to youth and asks: “They said yes to the Lord. Would you?”
