Indeed times are tough and our days are dim but we can always look at the brighter side and be grateful…
In our rat race for survival we always run out of time, so we have no time to spend with God, our family or loved ones. We would just mumble a hurried prayer and go through the motion of hurrying and scurrying to accomplish a thousand things on our list.
Our busy schedule robs us of the precious moments of solitude we need for meditation, bible reading and personal devotion and deprives us of the pleasure of gazing at the beauty of the sunrise, the flowers and the rest of God’s creation because we need to get going. Oh how we long for a short break and temporary respite from this frenzy.
With the community quarantine being implemented as a measure to mitigate the spread of Covid-19 we are being locked down at home. We cannot work or earn, we cannot travel or tour, we cannot go shopping or malling. Many of us are whining and find staying at home boring, annoying or suffocating yet when we look at it from a different perspective the lockdown can open up new doors.
Foremost, the lockdown forces us to stand still and listen to the loving voice of God, entreating us to renew our relationship with him. It makes us see that we are not invincible, that we are all vulnerable and our only means of safety and security is to abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Second, lockdown strengthens our family bond. What a delight it is to be able to share meals together, do chores together, and worship together. We realise we don’t need to spend much or travel far just to create “moments”. Being at home and staying safe together can be just as perfect. Finally, the lockdown allows us to be more creative and resourceful. With so much time in our hand we get to explore new horizons, learn new skills, acquire new knowledge, try out new ideas, develop new hobbies, pursue new interests, make new masterpieces, write new stories, weave new dreams, gain new insights and probably create a better, stronger and lovelier versions of ourselves.
