On June 8, the Catholic Charismatic Renewal International Service (CHARIS) in Hong Kong celebrated Pentecost Sunday at the Caritas Hall, Caine Road. The theme, “Living the Charism,” featured guest speaker Father Paul Vladymir Eustache from the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate.
The afternoon began with heartfelt praise and worship songs led by the St. Joseph Filipino Prayer Group. Coordinator Alvin Alvaro guided the worship prayers, transforming the atmosphere into one of vibrant energy and joy. Enthusiastic melodies filled the air, and the congregation responded with smiles, dancing, and raised hands. The rhythm and praise created an infectious spirit of celebration, laughter, and joy, uniting participants in a shared experience of the Holy Spirit’s presence.

Father Eustache’s talk centred on the significance of charism in daily life, delving into Church teachings, the Bible, the catechism, and the magisterium. He explored the Charismatic Renewal Movement’s connection to Pentecost, its origins, and its current impact on Church life, highlighting its transformative power.
Father Eustache pointed out that the Charismatic renewal brings benefits to the Church, including increased laypeople participation in its mission and strengthened parish communities, leading to more church attendance. This renewal encourages individuals to engage their bodies, emotions, and minds in worship, making praise joyous and heartfelt, such as raising their hands and embracing one another, actions not common in traditional Mass settings. He pointed out that by invigorating the Church, the Charismatic Renewal revives spiritual life and fosters fellowship, helping each Christian discover their role in the Body of Christ.
It nurtures a fresh appreciation for spiritual gifts from the Holy Spirit, aimed at building and strengthening the Church’s outreach.
Father Eustache refers to this as the New Evangelisation as the Catholic charismatic movement is vibrant and fruitful. He urged the congregation to continue their efforts. He hoped their prayer, praise, and worship services would entrust the movement to the Holy Spirit, welcoming its gifts and charisms in unity across Churches, declaring “Jesus is Lord.”
The event concluded with a Mass led by Father Jay Flandez, alongside Father Lawrence Lee Len and Father Eustache, celebrating the spirit of unity and witness to the Holy Spirit.
The event was joined by many Filipinos from various parishes and some members from a Chinese charismatic group. SE
