HONG KONG (SE): In its second week, the Caritas Bazaars drew some 17,000 people to its charity events. In Kowloon, over 12,600 attendees visited the 257 stalls set up in Fa Hui Park, Boundary Street, on November 9. The stalls were the fruits of the efforts of 19 parishes and 27 Catholic schools, showcasing their commitment to the community. On the same day, the Cheung Chau bazaar attracted more than 4,500 visitors to its 60 booths.
The festivities commenced with an opening ceremony officiated by Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Ha Chi-shing; Father Joseph Yim Tak-lung, the chief executive of Caritas-Hong Kong; Professor Paul Lam Kwan-sing, president of Hong Kong Metropolitan University; Professor Stephen Cheung Yan-leung, president of Saint Francis University; Jimmy Jim Wai-kee, managing executive officer of ICBC [Asia] Limited and chairperson of Caritas Fund Raising Committee as well as other representatives from Caritas.

In his welcoming address, Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Ha expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the support received from both long-time supporters and new friends. He was particularly pleased to see significant participation from young people, whose enthusiasm and creativity brought a fresh and energetic touch to the event.
Bishop Ha noted that the Jubilee Year theme, “Pilgrims of Hope, aligns perfectly with Caritas’ motto “Love in the Service of Hope”, and encouraged everyone to engage in acts of kindness, whether through donations, volunteer efforts, or prayers, to share God’s love and spread hope within the community.

Professor Lam reminisced about his first experience at the Caritas Charity Bazaar 50 years ago, highlighting the joy and challenges of setting up booths and raising funds. He reinforced the significance of the charity bazaar, which has been a staple fundraising event for Caritas since its inception in 1961.
