Voting for the future of our society

Voting for the future of our society

Each morning, we wake up and give thanks to God for creating heaven and earth and for blessing humanity with a beautiful environment—a place where people can live and work in peace, raise families, and continue their traditions. Hong Kong is our cherished home. It is our collective responsibility to protect and care for it.

God entrusted the earth to humankind, making us its stewards with a clear responsibility to protect and nurture it. This important work requires collaboration at every level—from advocacy and policy-making to implementation and ongoing oversight. These exemplify the mission of the Legislative Council.

Under the Basic Law, the Legislative Council serves as the legislative body of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Its core functions include enacting, amending, and repealing laws; approving taxes and public expenditures; holding the government accountable; and addressing concerns raised by Hong Kong residents.

The upcoming Legislative Council election on December 7 is therefore crucial. The government relies on the Legislative Council to pass and fund new policies, as well as to ensure these policies serve the public interest.

Electing capable Legislative Council members gives us representation in building a better society. Hong Kong continues to face significant challenges, including income inequality, housing shortages, healthcare access, mental health concerns, family issues, and a sluggish retail market.

Addressing these issues requires the united efforts of both our elected representatives and the wider community. The new Legislative Council members bear the added responsibility of transforming Hong Kong’s strengths into meaningful progress that benefits everyone.

As Christians, we are called to care for social affairs, especially for the vulnerable and the poor. We are committed to upholding human dignity, defending justice and social order, prioritising people, building a harmonious society, and supporting economic development. Improving quality of life for all remains a central concern.

Participating in the Legislative Council election is both a duty and a responsibility. Guided by a conscience informed by Catholic social teachings, we strive to elect candidates of integrity and wisdom—individuals who are willing to hear the voices of citizens . We pray that they fulfill their campaign promises and offer genuine ideas and plans for Hong Kong’s future, working together with the community to build a better home where the well-being of all is the highest priority.

We will continue to pay close attention to the new Legislative Council, including expressing our opinions through appropriate channels.

Vote for capable individuals on December 7 to build a better Hong Kong, and work for the well-being of the next generation. SE
