One of the biggest challenges I face as a disciple of Jesus is resisting the temptations of today’s world. Our society often measures worth through material possessions, achievements, and popularity. However, Jesus reassures me that I am “not of the world” (John 17:16). I do not need to succumb to these societal pressures; my true identity is as a beloved child of God.
To embody this truth amid the busyness of life, I make a point to create small “pauses” for quiet reflection. Just as the prophet Elijah listened for God’s voice in a “gentle whisper,” these moments help me reconnect with his loving messages, reminding me, “You are my beloved child” (Mark 1:11).
While it can be difficult to ignore the distractions around me, remaining rooted in my identity as God’s beloved gives me the strength to reject these influences and live in accordance with his truth.
