HONG KONG (SE): Holy Family Parish in Choi Hung marked its 73rd anniversary on December 28 with a solemn Mass celebrated by vicar general Father Paul Kam Po-wai, together with Divine Word Father Johnson Dhos, assistant parish priest, Father John Baptist Le Van Ba, and other concelebrants, Fathers James Ho Ngo Lu Vien, Kevin Dao Duy Thien, Franz Gassner, and Father Fabio Favata of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions.
A highlight of the celebration was the baptism and confirmation of 28 young students, all of whom also received their First Holy Communion.
In his bilingual homily, Father Kam reflected on the importance of family life, encouraging the young candidates to express love and gratitude towards their parents. He reminded the congregation that family is a precious gift, noting that even Jesus lived within the warmth of a human family.
Addressing the godparents, Father Kam underlined their vital role as “second parents” entrusted with nurturing the spiritual lives of their godchildren.
He explained that participation in church life is an expression of love for God, saying, “If we know how to love God, we know how to love others.” Echoing the words of Saint Pope John Paul II, he urged the faithful not to be afraid of holiness.
In his concluding remarks, Father Kam encouraged the newly baptised to welcome Jesus into their daily lives and to share his love with others. Following the homily, the congregation renewed its baptismal promises as a sign of renewed faith and commitment.
Before the conclusion of the Mass, the parish expressed its appreciation to former parish council members for their service, while blessings were offered to new council members from both the Chinese- and English-speaking communities as they begin their ministry of service.
