SHANGHAI (Agenzia Fides): Bishop Joseph Shen Bin of Shanghai, China, emphasised “the love of Christ for the Church” and “the fidelity of the Church to Christ” during his homily at the opening of a seminar organised by the Diocese of Shanghai. This seminar aimed to strengthen pastoral work in parishes and promote the proclamation of the Gospel throughout the city and diocese.
The event took place in Shanghai on October 29 and was attended by over 230 priests, nuns, and laypeople from the diocese, as well as representatives from civil authorities.
In his address, Bishop Shen specifically directed his message to the priests, reminding them that the foundation of their pastoral work lies in the careful preparation and celebration of daily Mass, daily prayer, meditation, Eucharistic adoration, and the study of the Word of God.
During the seminar’s various working sessions, participants discussed the implementation of the “Diocesan Order for the Management of the Works of the Catholic Church in Shanghai.”
The attendees were divided into 23 working groups to explore 15 specific topics, categorized into four thematic areas: the sinicisation of the management system for the Catholic community’s activities, the pastoral life of parishes, the current state and challenges facing Christian families, and the vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life.
The discussions resulted in valuable suggestions and ideas that will help shape the future of the Catholic community in the Diocese of Shanghai.
