The Disciples of the Divine Master [PDDM] Congregation marked a significant milestone on June 30 with the celebration of their 25th anniversary in Hong Kong. The event took place at the Our Lady of Annunciation Church in Tsuen Wan, featuring a solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by Father Thomas Law Kwok-fai, the parish priest of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Wan Chai and nine other priests.

Sister Magallanes thanked the Hong Kong community.

Before the Mass commenced, attendees were treated to a video presentation that chronicled the congregation’s journey in Hong Kong. Jo Basilio provided an introductory remark, highlighting how this occasion represents the fulfillment of the Sisters’ dream to respond to Blessed James Alberione’s desire to contribute to evangelization efforts in China. The foundation’s roots trace back to 1982 when the Sisters from the Philippines, under the blessings of their superiors in Rome, established their first mission in Taiwan.

In 2000, they expanded their outreach to Hong Kong, solidifying their presence.

The silver anniversary celebration was fittingly held at Our Lady of Annunciation Church, one of the original sites of the Sisters’ mission 25 years ago. Encouraged by Father Law, then the parish priest and head of the Diocesan Liturgical Commission, the Sisters began sharing their charism through dedicated service focused on the Eucharist, Priesthood, and Liturgy. Over the years, they have actively engaged in pastoral formation and supported not only clergy and local communities but also migrant workers in Hong Kong. Despite various challenges, they have faithfully responded to the call of Jesus the Divine Master.

In his homily, Father Law posed reflective questions about life’s purpose and the reason for our existence, urging attendees to consider their unique missions, much like St. Paul.

A lover of the liturgy, he praised the two PDDM sisters for holding candles in the reading of the Gospel, showing how their apostolic work has positively impacted the community.

Father Law commended their dedicated service at Our Lady of Annunciation Church, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and St. Jude’s Church in North Point, recognizing their commitment to their charisms.

As part of the celebration, during the singing of the Our Father, Father Law invited the congregation to sing in their native languages, emphasising the beauty of diversity within the community.

Before the conclusion of the event, provincial superior Sister Mary Magdalene Magallanes expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in the celebration.

Sister Magallanes reflected on the importance of remembering those—bishops, priests, religious, lay collaborators, benefactors, and friends—who have journeyed alongside them over the years, supporting and welcoming them warmly.

She acknowledged the vital role of Cardinal Stephen Chow S.J., the current bishop, and the late John Baptist Cardinal Wu, who welcomed the PDDM sisters in 2009. Additionally, she expresssed gratitude to Father Law and congratulated him for his 46th sacerdotal anniversary.
