
HONG KONG (SE): The Colloquium of Six Religious Leaders of Hong Kong gathered at St. Paul’s College on August 23 to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. The event honoured the memory of those who died in the war and other conflicts, with floral tributes and prayers.
Nearly 200 participants, including representatives from six major faith traditions, attended the commemoration. Government officials were also present, including Leung Wang-ching, Undersecretary for the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau.
A joint declaration was delivered by the Most Venerable Kuan Yun, president of the Hong Kong Buddhist Association, affirming that human happiness is built on the foundation of world peace. The statement called for respect for national sovereignty and urged peaceful dialogue as the means to resolve international disputes.
Representing the Catholic community, Father Joseph Chan, vicar general of the Diocese of Hong Kong, stressed the importance of unity among religions in seeking God’s comfort for grieving families, harmony in society, and peace across the globe. He encouraged all to draw strength from shared renewal and the promise of eternal life through the resurrection of Christ.
