Trials endured with faith

For almost seven months, I struggled to write because of my vision issues. I can’t see clearly on my phone, and I only occasionally borrow my husband’s reading glasses, which don’t fit me well. As a result, I often avoided using my phone.

We all wish to obtain what we want effortlessly, but achieving even basic needs requires hard work. Each day is a battle for survival, especially for those living in poverty.

However, in our focus on personal struggles, we tend to forget our social responsibilities and involvement in matters concerning our country.

The Filipino people have faced tremendous suffering due to various calamities and tragedies. Numerous typhoons and earthquakes have impacted the Philippines, resulting in flooding, landslides, and more. Yet, the most devastating issue is ongoing corruption, which is a man-made tragedy causing widespread suffering. Corrupt officials exacerbate the struggles of the Filipino people, making life even grimmer.

Calamities and tragedies often occur simultaneously. We may feel lost and unsure about how to rebuild our lives, yet we continue to rise and strive for a fair life, hoping our government officials will do the same.

Sometimes, the weight of our suffering leaves us feeling numb, and we endure the consequences of others’ wrongdoings. We want our government to know that we oppose corruption and will not tolerate dishonesty or anomalies.

We Filipinos are disappointed and angry knowing billion of pesos have been wasted for many flood control projects, some defective, sub-standard, worse, some do not exist at all. It is shameful for our country to be spotlighted globally for corruption while many Filipinos suffer in poverty, despite the nation’s wealth in taxes. Those involved in corruption often escape punishment due to a weak justice system. We are tired of corruption and long for honest governance focused on serving the people, not personal gain.

Even as our leaders are divided, we, as citizens, are confused about whom to trust what make us one is that many stories of faith is born among us Filipinos and the spirit hope, heroism, resilience shines in the hearts of many good Filipinos in time of calamities and tragedies

Lastly, I pray for the people of Hong Kong, which has been through tough times when a blaze of fire destroyed buildings and killed many. My heart goes out to them, and I also pray for all affected families, that they find comfort in God’s love. May those who have perished be welcomed into heaven.
