From the classroom to Hong Kong

From the classroom to Hong Kong

My three years of teaching in the Philippines ignited a passion for service and a clear sense of purpose in me. Leaving my professional career was challenging, driven by my deep love for my family and a strong desire to secure their future. My experience as a domestic helper in Hong Kong significantly changed my perspective on sacrifice and resilience.

However, moving to Hong Kong introduced me to a vibrant community of fellow educators who, like me, transitioned from teaching to different types of work to support their families better. Witnessing many teachers forge new paths and find belonging in this environment helped me view Hong Kong as more than just a place of employment; it became a second home, where our shared struggles foster a strong bond.

This journey has taught me that dignity exists in any work performed with integrity. My life in Hong Kong serves as a constant reminder that true success is measured by the well-being of our loved ones, rather than the title we hold. Through this, I’ve realised the value of community and the strength that comes from our collective sacrifices.
