How to practise daily true repentance

I practise true repentance by changing my old, wrongful habits. For instance, if I have wronged others or my family, or acted against God’s will, I strive to ensure it does not happen again; I pray, ask for forgiveness for my actions, and seek guidance for the changes I need to make. While I cannot promise never to sin again, I ensure that I seek forgiveness daily through prayer, express genuine remorse, and constantly ask for guidance. I make amends for my mistakes, strive to set things right, and carefully consider my future actions. After all, true repentance should not be merely in words; it must be accompanied by deeds.

True repentance means admitting my sins, asking God for forgiveness, turning away from them, and making a daily effort to live according to his will through prayer, obedience, and loving others.

Just as we must eat daily to survive, we need daily repentance to thrive. Repentance doesn’t automatically make us holy; rather, it acknowledges our human fragility and our need for God’s strength. True repentance rarely involves dramatic gestures. Instead, it is found in small, deliberate daily shifts: swapping late-night scrolling for Scripture, pausing to pray, or choosing calm humility over complaining. These small changes align our hearts with Jesus’ call to serve others.

I practise true repentance every day through my morning habits: praying the Holy Rosary, reading the Daily Scriptures, and attending online or in-person Mass. This daily practice guides me in my encounters, helping me show love and patience to my family and everyone I meet.

For me, true repentance isn’t just about saying “sorry”. It is really shown through our actions—in the gradual change of our character and attitude every day. Whenever I know I’ve made a mistake, I try to humble myself, admitting it to myself and to the Lord without any excuses. It is truly a daily choice to choose what is right, even in the little things that no one else sees but God.

True repentance goes beyond saying “I’m sorry”—it is a lifelong commitment to self-reflection and change. Each day, I examine my actions, seek God’s forgiveness, and make amends with those I’ve hurt. When I inevitably fall short, I rely on God’s mercy to help me stand up and try again. For me, repentance is actively demonstrated through daily kindness, patience, and honesty. It is less about achieving perfection and more about daily growth, aligning my life with God’s will, and letting my actions reflect a transformed heart.
