Messengers of Hope: Walking Together in Love and Hope
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
This year, with hearts full of gratitude, we mark together the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong. Guided by the theme, “Messengers of Hope,” we are reminded that love, faith and hope are not abstract ideas, but the tangible presence of God in our world. This divine gift, entrusted to us by the Lord, relies on the selfless devotion of generations to keep its flame alive and thriving.
In this ongoing journey of faith and service, Caritas–Hong Kong, as the social service arm of the Diocese, remains steadfast in its mission. Through social work, education, medical, and community support, Caritas has continued to walk alongside underprivileged families, the elderly, young people, and those in distress – serving, in a special way, the Last, the Least, and the Lost. We strive not only to relieve material and spiritual poverty, but also to heal the wounds of the heart and mind, empowering those facing hardship to rediscover hope and renew their lives. The true value of Caritas extends beyond charitable relief; it lies in fostering inclusion and solidarity through the love of Christ, anchoring our society on the bedrock of love, faith and hope.
Yet our world today faces serious challenges. Mounting economic pressures and an escalating mental health crisis have driven demand for our services to unprecedented levels, even as the resources needed to carry out this mission are increasingly stretched. These challenges are a sobering reminder that compassionate service cannot be taken for granted. To press forward, Caritas urgently needs the continued generosity and support of our entire community.
I wholeheartedly invite you to answer this spiritual calling and embrace your mission as “Messengers of Hope” by generously supporting Caritas’s fundraising initiatives. Whether through financial contributions, volunteer service, or simply sharing Christ’s love in your daily life, every effort—like the humble offering of the five loaves and two fish—can be transformed by God’s grace into a powerful blessing that nourishes countless lives.
On this joyful occasion of the Diocese’s 80th anniversary, let us walk hand in hand to spread Christ’s love to every corner of our community, so that more lives may be blessed and transformed by having faith in love, which will generate hope!
May the Lord bless you abundantly with grace, peace, and strength!
