HONG KONG (SE): Precious Blood Sister Lourdes Chan died on the morning of January 18 at North District Hospital, after 69 years of consecrated life. She was 91-years-old.
Born in 1932, Sister Chan joined the Sisters of the Precious Blood in 1955. In 1959, she made her first vows and was assigned to Yuen Long and Sai Kung. She served in several convents during the 1960s in Hong Kong and Macau.
She served at the Precious Blood Children’s Village in 1967 and later cared for cancer patients at Nam Long Hospital. Health issues later required Sister Chan to stay at the Precious Blood Mother House and at the Precious Blood Hospital in order to recover. Her illness didn’t stop her from fulfilling her mission.
In 1992, she served at St Benedict’s Parish and Shatin Hospital, where she shared her own experience of illness with the patients.
In 1997, her health deteriorated and she retired, moving to Fanling and later Yee Lok Communities.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Shek Kip Mei, on February 3 at 9,00am, followed by burial at St. Raphael’s Cemetery, Cheung Sha Wan.
