On June 2 the Feast of Corpus Christi, a group of students from Caritas Wu Cheng-Chung Secondary School and I participated in the “Sowing Love through Rice Dumplings” event, organised by Star of the Sea Parish and the Diocesan Pastoral Centre for Workers.

The event aimed to deliver rice dumplings and blessings to street cleaners and security workers in the industrial areas of Chai Wan and Siu Sai Wan before the Dragon Boat Festival.

Cardinal Stephen Chow, S.J., the Bishop of Hong Kong, gave his blessings to the volunteers, strengthening their spirit.

Cardinal Stephen said that the Eucharist and the Blood of Christ are a sign of the Father’s love for us, which will help us connect with the workers in the love of Christ.

While navigating the unfamiliar industrial areas under the hot summer sun proved challenging, the students were determined to complete their mission. After distributing the rice dumplings, they reflected on the experience and agreed that it was a meaningful activity that allowed them to spread love and connect with our neighbours.

The activity helped students understand the importance of companionship and encouraged them to step outside of their comfort zones and spread love and peace to others. The experience served as a valuable lesson in community outreach and the power of simple acts of kindness.
