HONG KONG (SE): For the 2026 Week of Christian Unity, Christians are urged to work together to advance God’s kingdom in a divided world. A joint statement by Hong Kong’s Christian denominations urged both communities and individual believers to embody Christ’s love.
“In today’s Church, facing divisions and diverse challenges, the apostolic call to unity is directed not only to communities but to each individual believer. We are called to live out unity, reflecting Christ’s love and grace, and advancing his Kingdom on earth,” said the joint statement, which was issued by the Diocesan Ecumenical Commission, the Ecumenical Patriarchate Orthodox Metropolitanate of Hong Kong and Southeast Asia, and the Hong Kong Christian Council.
The theme for this year’s Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is centred around Ephesians 4:4 “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling.” St. Paul points out that despite diverse members, the Church operates as a single entity in Christ with spiritual connections built by the Holy Spirit.
Key events this year include an Ecumenical Prayer Evening at Ward Memorial Methodist Church on January 24 in which Father Chor Yuk-wa has been invited to give a message. Prior to that, a Joint Ecumenical Communion Service at Truth Lutheran Church will be conducted for Christian leaders and co-workers on January 22, led by Reverend Wong Ka-fai of the Hong Kong Council of the Church of Christ in China. On Unity Sunday on January 18, Churches are encouraged to pray together and exchange pulpits.
