(RVA News): The Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences [FABC] will host an online interfaith course on integral ecology bringing together participants from across Asia from September 5 to November 21, via Zoom.
Titled “Online Interfaith Course for Integral Ecology,” the 10 session programme will examine ecological concerns and eco-spirituality through the perspectives and wisdom of the diverse religious traditions practiced across Asia.
Bishop Allwyn D’Silva, chairperson of the FABC Office of Human Development [OHD] and its Climate Change Desk, observed that Asia’s religious diversity makes an interfaith approach to ecology particularly important.
“Asia is a continent of many faiths. We also live in a deeply religious environment. Religion plays an important part in our lives. Hence, every issue, especially ecology, has to be seen through the multifaith lens,” Bishop D’Silva said.
“From this perspective, OHD and OEIA have organised an interfaith course for integral ecology. Do join us,” he added.
The course is organized by the FABC Office of Human Development, Climate Change Desk and Office of Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs [OEIA], in collaboration with other partners.
According to the organisers, the programme aims to promote interfaith harmony and encourage ecological action by deepening participants’ understanding of eco-justice and eco-spirituality across Asia’s diverse faith traditions.
The first five sessions, scheduled for September 5, 12, 19, 26 and October 10, will examine the ecological crisis, vulnerable communities, culture, ecology and justice, and West Asian religions.
The remaining sessions, on October 17, 24, 31, November 14 and 21, will explore Indic religions, East Asian religions, Indigenous traditions and irreligion, followed by sessions on pathways for collective ecological action.
The course will be conducted in English from 8:30–10:30am UTC [GMT], corresponding to different times across Asia.
