HONG KONG (SE): Maryknoll Day was held on October 21 at Maryknoll Fathers’ School. The school Friday before each year’s World Mission Sunday is dedicated to the occasion to celebrate the missionary work of Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers and pray for missionaries around the globe.
Maryknoll Father and Brothers was founded in 1911 under the name of Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America. Since its first mission to China in 1917, its work has spread worldwide. The history of Maryknoll’s evangelisation in China and the work of Maryknoll priests in Hong Kong was celebrated at the school’s secondary and primary sections.
At the secondary school, the music club sang a hymn of praise to the Lord during lunch break, while during a special assembly in the school hall, students participated in an online quiz on Maryknoll history. The assembly concluded with the hymn, Spirit of God, to pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance and protection of missionary work.
At the primary section, it was dress casual day to remind students that evangelisation is something to be done everyday. Students joined in games to learn about the meaning of the school emblem and the work of former school supervisors. Students also made cards to express their gratitude to the Maryknoll Fathers.
It was a day to renew students’ understanding of the Maryknoll spirit and to bear witness to God’s love through service to the marginalised and building a righteous society.
