I. FUND-RAISING FOR Earthquake VICTIMS IN VENEZUELA
Two devastating earthquakes that hit the north-central regions of Venezuela on 24 June 2026 have caused widespread destruction and left thousands dead and injured. Many people are still trapped under the rubble, waiting to be rescued. As an expression of our solidarity with the victims and the relief workers, Cardinal Stephen CHOW, S.J., is appealing to the faithful to offer special prayers for them. In support of the emergency relief, parishes are to take up a second collection during Mass on 12 July (Sunday). The relief funds so collected should be sent, through crossed cheques made payable to “Caritas-Hong Kong” (with indication “Venezuela Earthquake” at the back), to the Accounts Office, Caritas-Hong Kong, Room 407, Caritas House, 2 Caine Road, Hong Kong.

II. 6th WORLD DAY FOR GRANDPARENTS AND THE ELDERLY
It is the disposition of the Holy Father, Leo XIV, that the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly will continue to be celebrated annually on the fourth Sunday in July, close to the liturgical memorial of Saints Joachim and Anna, the grandparents of Jesus. In response to numerous requests, however, the Holy Father has granted Episcopal Conferences the authority to move the celebration to a different date to cope with pastoral needs and the specific local circumstances.
Since a lot of our local families will go abroad for vacations during summer time, especially during July and August, Cardinal Stephen CHOW, S.J. has directed that this year, the Sixth World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly is to be celebrated on September 20 (Sunday) instead of July 26 (Sunday), so that more Catholic families can join their grandparents and the elderly in this annual celebration. Whether or not a fixed date will be set for this annual celebration in our Diocese in the future will be announced later.
The Diocesan Commission for Integral Human Development will send reference material relating to the said celebration to parishes.
Given at the Chancery Office,
6 July 2026.
Rev. Lawrence LEE
Chancellor
