Radio Veritas Asia Mandarin service marks 50 years

KUALA LUMPUR (RVA News): To mark the 50th anniversary of Radio Veritas Asia’s (RVA) Mandarin Service and the 12th anniversary of the Global Chinese Hymn Composition Contest, a three-city concert tour was held in Malaysia from July 31 to August 2. Performances began at St Mary’s Chapel, Malacca, on July 31 while the second concert took place at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre on August 1.

The showcase brought together hymn composers, musicians, and members of the Chinese-speaking Catholic community, highlighting the enduring role of sacred music in worship, faith formation, and evangelisation across Asia.

Father John Mi Shen, executive secretary of the Office of Social Communication of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences and programme director of RVA, captured the event’s spirit, stating: “May every note tonight help us draw closer to God.”

His words echoed the purpose of the tour—to foster a deeper encounter with God through music and to inspire renewed commitment among the faithful. The concert series also marked RVA Mandarin Service’s five decades of connecting Chinese-speaking Catholics through radio and digital media.
